We had the opportunity to stop by a local shop the other day—Old Glory Automotive in Largo, Florida. We had gotten wind that they are in the process of working on a couple of projects that we might be interested in. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, the first thing we noticed was what looked like a really solid GMC truck in one of the bays.
Since we have a soft spot for trucks, we headed that way like a moth to a flame. We asked Chuck what he and the shop plan for the truck, and he proceeded to tell us about some of the options. The build can go many different ways, so a solid plan has not been decided upon yet, but we are sure that whatever it is, it’ll be a cool hauler. As you can see, the “Jimmy” isn’t showroom fresh, but it is still a solid foundation for a build.
The truck itself is a 1969 “half ton”, with a 350ci engine, and a Turbo 350 transmission. The floors, cab corners, and lower doors are usually the first areas to succumb to rust, but fortunately, all of these areas are in really good shape. Unfortunately though, the hood has seen better days. But, on the bright side, since it needs replaced, that makes room for an upgrade; think Cowl Induction hood.
Inside the truck, the spartan interior is also in really good shape, so it’s like a blank slate that go any direction. Imagine a custom dash and leather interior. The sky’s the limit.
This truck will make a cool project, and we got to thinking, how would you guys build it if it were yours. Let us know what you think.
