The all-American hot rod took center stage in Pleasanton, California, as the Goodguys presented the 22nd Annual Summer Get-Together the end of May! If you have never been, this—like all Goodguys events, are catered to true car enthusiasts. Not only did the car show crowd enjoy relaxing in the sunny weather, but if you like to watch cars get run hard, then you really need to check out a Goodguys show. Goodguys is one of the few “car show” events that we know of, that actually gives car owners a place to participate in performance contests during the event. With the Goodguys, it is the autocross challenge that has gained so much popularity with event goers. In fact, would you believe that many times, car owners are waiting in line! Filling the fairgrounds in Pleasanton, the huge two-day event featured over 2,500 hot rods, customs, muscle cars, and trucks of all years, makes and models! Not only was there plenty of eye candy, but if you were looking for parts or even a new project, the giant swap meet and car corral was sure to have something for you.
We wish we could show you everything that happened at the event, but it was just too large to see it all in one day. But, while walking around the show, we happened upon a couple of cars that we really think that you guys would want to check out. So we snapped some pics, and decided to show you just a smattering of the quality cars at the event.
’68 Camaro: Albert and Wanda Neal, Las Vegas, NV
The Neal’s have been the proud owners of this gorgeous first-generation Camaro since 1987. Albert and his friend, Ernie Hotchkis, restored the car, and added items like a 350 horsepower 350ci engine. The mill benefits from four-bolt mains, 9.5:1 compression, Edelbrock heads, intake and camshaft, and a Holley 670 “Double Pumper”.
Behind that is a 350 Turbo, and 2.73 gears. Completing the look, is a set of polished Torque Thrusts with BFG Radials.
’55 Chevy: Michael Scott, Del Mar, CA
This Champagne over black Tri-Five has to be one of the coolest around the Del Mar area. Under the hood is a tried-and-true 427ci big-block, but the real eye catcher has to be the Hilborn injection on top of the rat. The engine was built by Mike Johnson of JMS Racing engines, and is backed by an automatic transmission. Making sure that the car handles like a new Camaro, the factory Chassis was replaced by an Art Morrison foundation.
’58 Apache: Scott and Beth Hassman, San Dimas, CA
Talk about a wild ride, this Apache was one of the vehicles being shown in the indoor portion of the event, and it looked flawless. The colors are a blend of House of Kolor Black and Galaxy grey, with a little pearl thrown in for good measure. The bed is floored with a beautiful Maple.
The 350ci engine is outfitted with a Quick Fuel EFI system, and a March Pulleys accessory drive. Behind that is a drive-it-for-miles 700R transmission. The truck actually rides on a late-model chassis with Accuair air ride, and a four-link suspension.
Creature comforts inside abound: leather, power everything, and air conditioning. Riding in style was never this cool!
