A Geo Metro land speed race car sounds a bit like an oxymoron. The Geo Metro is the ultra low budget, super efficient three cylinder car for those with a close eye on their finances. They were originally manufactured as a joint effort between Suzuki and General Motors and finally ended up as a Chevrolet production.
With their low cost and small platform, they have become popular to use as little beater race cars. But because of their low cost, they usually don’t receive very many high end modifications. We spotted this Geo Metro race car, if that’s what you want to call it, on Photobucket. When the time came for the owner to build up a race car, he went ahead and turbo charged it. The problem was, no traditional metal fabrication was used.
To start, the exhaust manifold appears to be screwed together with some cast iron pipes used for plumbing. Once the forced air leaves the turbo, it travels through a high tech system of PVC pipes before reaching the the throttle body. While this doesn’t seem right, on a Geo Metro it oddly feels correct. Also, its done pretty cleanly and not hacked together.
To add to the land speed record feel of the car, aerodynamics became a thought. The entire underside of the car had panels installed to help the air flow easily. In addition to the underside being covered with panels, a smooth body kit was added to minimize the amount of air under the car. The rear wheel wells had air foils installed to keep drag to a minimum. In order to keep the air flowing smoothly off the car, a big air foil was added to the rear of the car.
Unfortunately we don’t know what the top speed turned out to be on this aerodynamic turbo’d Geo Metro. But hopefully the Geo Metro hit the triple digits!
