SEMA 2025: Gas Monkey Garage To Debut Radical 1970 Chevelle Street Bruiser

If you’ve been following Gas Monkey Garage on YouTube, you probably know all about the 1970 Chevelle they’ve been building for SEMA 2025. In essence, Gas Monkey’s Richard Rawlings found a solid California Malibu, took it back to Texas, and gave his team 30 days to transform the car into a SEMA showstopper–and that’s exactly what they did! Rolling on a world-class Speedtech chassis, the car is a radically re-engineered street bruiser that features a 1,200 horsepower LT V8 and a whole lot of style!

Building An Icon

The project’s appeal becomes obvious the first time you put eyes on its renderings. Gas Monkey’s team took Chevrolet’s iconic Chevelle silhouette and lowered and widened it to create an aggressive stance that commands attention. That stance, cradling an epic LT engine with a roster of forged components, comes courtesy of a Speedtech ExtReme Chevelle chassis that features remote-reservoir QA1 MOD Shocks and a cross cantilever rear suspension. Engineered for pro-touring track builds and restomod street builds, that fully independent setup is both disciplined on the street and strong enough for the track. According to Rawlings, he chose Speedtech as a foundation for the car because they offer the best Chevelle chassis on the market.

Our goal with our ExtReme line of chassis is to handle like a modern performance car without losing the vintage taste that these muscle cars give you. With the Speedtech IRS under it, Richard and the Gas Monkey team will be able to really drive this Chevelle harder than ever before, or they would be able to get in and road trip for days at a time with ultimate comfort. – Cameron Foremaster, Speedtech Performance

Timeless Style, Modern Manners

The beauty of this build is that it retains the classic appeal of an old school muscle car while seamlessly incorporating decades of improved technology and performance. Quick stops, commanding acceleration, and intelligent chassis dynamics double down on the car’s street bruiser attitude. But there’s simply no denying the enduring charm of traditional Chevelle lines, beloved Chevrolet heritage cues, and vintage attitude.
