We here at Power Automedia believe that the future of the automotive magazine is online, though there is still a sizable number of subscribers to physical print copies of popular magazines. The classified section of Hemmings still has a sizable readership for its print magazine, but they’ve also integrated daily email blasts into their subscriber benefits.

From Hemmings Auto Blog comes the story of a man whose poor wife now has to worry about him buying a new car everyday after one of these email blasts led to the purchase of a vintage Chevy stock car.

Jeff Stumb, the director of the Great Race, saw this 1937 Chevy stock car for sale in one of the Hemmings Daily email blasts. Stumb, who says he needs another car like he needs “a hole in [his] head”, instantly had visions of a streetable stock car, and by the end of the day he owned it. Pity his poor wife.

This demonstrates the danger of online car ads that lead to instant gratification…but we think it’s also awesome. While the stock car isn’t anything special, equipped with a tri-carb inline-six Chevy engine, it’s a cool-looking piece of history that has found a new home with a very enthusiastic owner. Having a streetable stock-car-turned-hot-rod sounds like a great second life for this retired race car.
