The third generation of Camaros brought about the iconic IROC-Z. The IROC-Z was initially offered as a Z28 option in 1985. In 1988, the IROC-Z replaced the Z28. This only lasted until the beginning of 1990 when the IROC-Z production was cancelled. We recently found a piece of this Camaro history being sold on eBay, this 1986 IROC-Z.

This IROC-Z has only 24,006 miles on it and is being sold in a virtually-new condition. The seller of the car states in the description that the car has always been garaged and never even received a door ding or scratch. No wear and tear can be seen on the car, inside or out, which is very impressive for a car that’s 25 years old.

While 1986 was the last year the IROC-Z was offered with the L69, 5.0 liter, 305 cubic-inch engine, this car is not one of them. I only mention this because the seller seems to advertise the car as containing an L69.

This, however, is corrected by an individual in the Q&A section- telling the seller that the IROC-Z would be worth three times as much if it were truly one of the very rare ’86 L69 IROC, of which only 53 were made. The tell-tale sign was the original automatic transmission in the car. The 1986 L69 IROC-Zs all came with manual transmissions.

While this car is beautiful and in amazing condition, it probably didn’t help the sale that the seller didn’t really know what he was talking about. Since the lot closed on May 4^th with the reserve not being met, the seller has the chance to try to sell the car again.

If he does, we recommend that he give bidders the correct information about what’s really under the hood of the car rather than guessing. This might help his chances of selling it.
