eBay Find of the Day: ’80 Chevrolet Citiation Trike…Wait, What?

So, this is a registered, licensed motorcycle in the state of Nebraska. A gentleman there decided to invest three years of his time in converting a 1980 Chevrolet Citation front wheel drive compact car into this “Triation,” as they call it. Now, lots of bike-rodders build three-wheeled motorcycles, so there’s little that’s unusual about that, but starting with a Citation instead of a Harley surely has to be walking to the beat of a different drum.

The Citation’s 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine lives out back now and pushes, rather than pulls, the vehicle along. Driver and passenger sit inline now rather than side-by-side, but both can enjoy the luxury of air conditioning on longer trips.

One of those trips, according to the seller, was from Ohama to the Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD, where this conversion took first in its class.

There’s little doubt that this is not a car for those looking to pass through life in a quiet, unnoticed fashion. According to the seller, this trike will cruise the highways nicely at 65 mph and handles like most any other three-wheeled bike.

I’m not sure how it works in other states, but at home here, if it is licensed as a motorcycle, you must wear a helmet when driving it. That would seem a bit awkward, but in those states that don’t require a brain bucket, it would be easier to live with.

The auction for this highly unusual vehicle passed some time ago with a top bid of $4,700 failing to beat the reserve bid. It’s going to take just the right person to snap this one up, but if that person is you, get a hold of the seller using the “Ask a Question” link in the listing and you could be one step closer to the vehicle of your dreams.

As always, we recommend that if you cannot inspect this vehicle personally, get someone you trust to stop by, or have an independent inspection done before making any financial commitments.
