When it comes to the Tri-Five Chevys, station wagons have always been a popular platform, whether for rodding, tricking out or boulevard cruising. After all, there’s just that much more room for getting a properly packed cooler to the beach.
First introduced to the public in 1950, the Chevrolet Bel Air grew in popularity and came into its own when the second generation car was revealed for the 1955 model year. Both two-door (Nomad) and four-door (Beauville or Townsman) station wagons were available in either the 210 or Bel Air trim levels.
Making up just under ten percent of the 1955 production, which tallies to the staggering number of 1,714,595, the two-door Nomad wagon was the rarest that year and the following two as well. In 1955, four-door wagons were available in 210 trim as the Townsman or in Bel Air trim as the Beauville. Both were 6-passenger cars.
The example shown here is currently available on eBay until July 25th, with a Buy It Now price of $9,500. While the car is not likely a good candidate for immaculate restoration, it would likely make a nice cruiser with not too much additional work. The seller is clear that the car needs an interior, but says the body is solid throughout. Currently finished in satin black, the Weld wheels make for a nice contrast.
Bidding to date has been dominated by those with short arms and deep pockets, so if the car is of interest, the opportunity remains open. Located in Bremen, GA, you would want to consider a personal inspection before making any commitments to a deal. If you can’t manage this yourself, consider having an independent inspection done. It’s just good business when dealing over the Internet.
