Today we have this fine Craigslist find: a 1969 Camaro RS, out of Highland, California.
The body is painted silver, with clear-coated rally stripes. The interior is done in a stock black scheme, with vinyl seats which match the factory-type houndstooth ones, lending the car its desired authenticity.
The owner claims to have a “brand new forged 383 engine w/ aluminum heads,” with less than 200 miles on it. A fresh motor like that sure as hell wouldn’t be cheap. Adding to the cost is the new transmission the owner had installed, which he was led to believe was a Borg Warner T-10. A complete overhaul of the front and rear suspension with Speedtech parts–upper and lower arms, sway bar, rear torque arm setup–shows this car means business, and will perform top-notch handling in both the front and the rear. Those tires won’t toe-in or toe-out too much.
Interestingly, the owner uses a Ford 9-inch rear differential, instead of the normal 10- or 12-bolt differentials one would normally expect to find. Speedtech, along with Diffworks of Corona, CA, were again employed for this part. The brakes are discs all around, made by the presitigious Wilwood company, and would have cost a pretty penny for the owner. A pro-touring car like this, with an emphasis on handling, couldn’t afford not to have disc brakes.
Rounding out the package are the wheels. These are made by NewGen, and are a three-piece, granite-and-chrome style setup which pair well with the car’s reflective aesthetic.
A real sweet car, to be sure.
