These days, the cash economy has taken a huge hit. People just don’t have money like they used to, leading to a resurgence in the barter economy. There have been stories, and even a TV show, centered on bartering, and now the latest story centers on a teenage girl who went from an old video game system to a sweet Camaro.

The News-Herald reports on the bartering skills of Rachel Dempsey, a 15-year old from Madison, Ohio who started out with an old PlayStation 2 (PS2) video game console, trading her way from a broken-down ATV to an incredibly clean, 1986 Camaro.

It didn’t happen overnight, but rather over the course of two years. After trading the PS2 for a broken ATV, Rachel then went ahead and traded that for a dirt bike, which she traded for a pop-up camper that she then sold to a family member for $1,999 and a can of Dr. Pepper.

Rachel used the cash to buy a $900 Camaro and another dirt bike, and eventually she traded her way through a Dodge Ram, a Dodge Intrepid, a Lincoln Navigator, a Chevy S-10, and eventually her current ride, a very clean 1986 Camaro. It’s a fairly incredible story, one that is as inspirational as it is cool. Have you ever bartered your way up from the bottom?
