Chevrolet unveiled a teaser video of a new “spring special edition” 2015 Camaro, and they are inviting the internet to choose a name for it by tweeting their suggestions with the hashtag, #NameThatCamaro. The name that is chosen will be revealed during Chevy’s 2014 SEMA show live stream.
Details on the car are scant – from the video, we know it’s an SS, that it has “phantom” stripes and deep green paint, and that it rolls on chrome split-spoke wheels, but that’s about it. We can say one thing for sure, though; asking the interwebs to name things for you is an endeavor fraught with peril. Back in 2012, the makers of Mountain Dew learned this the hard way, when their online naming contest got hijacked by pranksters and their leaderboard showed the number one suggestion for a new green apple flavor as “Hitler Did Nothing Wrong.”
The Chevy contest is slightly more prank-proof, since there won’t be any top ten list of embarrassing names for the world to see, but they do run the risk of having their hashtag “repurposed” – keep an eye on the more interesting suggestions on Twitter, and add your own to the fray!
