Chevrolet Answers Why They Race

It’s well known, auto manufacturers spends lots of time and money out on the tracks racing at various events across the country and internationally. The “Race on Sunday, sell on Monday” is no joke, especially when it comes to Chevrolet. Everything developed on the race track, eventually, makes into the late-model production vehicles. As Chevrolet.com was quoted, “The things we learn on the track influence the Chevrolet cars, trucks and crossovers we build for you. Our engineers call it ‘tech transfer’ and it’s why we race.”

Racing has been apart of Chevrolet for 100 years. A tradition Louis Chevrolet and his brothers started when they began their racing. The racing and development applied to production vehicles has a deep-rooted history, which has propelled Chevy to the forefront of racing. Recently, Chevrolet.com outlined why Chevrolet races and its direct influence on production vehicles. Chevrolet examined the many forms of racing they are directly involved with including NASCAR, Grand Am, ALMS, World Touring Car Championship and more recently, Chevrolet’s return to Indy Car racing. The trickle-down effect applies right here.

In a nutshell, before we examine each individual racing series, Chevrolet.com outlined the process right here: What we learn on the track continues to improve the Chevy you drive on the street. We don’t just test Corvette ZR1 to its limits at Germany’s challenging Nürburgring – we also tune suspension systems of Camaro SS and ZL1 and Cruze on the same track. Corvettes that race in the American Le Mans Series have been co-developed with the Corvette Z06 you can buy in any Chevrolet showroom. The small block V8 that dominates NASCAR competition and the small block V8 under the hood of Camaro and Corvette share a basic architecture and DNA that dates back to 1955. Chevrolet offers more E85-capable cars and trucks than any other manufacturer. And ethanol-blended fuels are now approved for NASCAR, Indy and ALMS racing. In any series we compete in, our ultimate goal is to take what we learn and apply it to the cars and trucks our customers drive.
