Let’s face it, clean vehicles, especially ones in the muscle car market and hard to come by. For most, just being in the right place at the right time is usually how it happens. Luckily, we’ve got our eyes and ears open and when we discovered this beautifully assembled, ’67 Nova wagon from Erich Monteith, it was worth a mention. What’s more, it was even featured in Hot Rod and Car Craft Magazine on separate occasions and if you’re in the market, it’s up for sale.

Monteith is no stranger to the muscle car scene and has recently finished a ’66 El Camino, which he autocrosses with on a regular basis. To say Monteith is a car nut would be an understatement. For this particular Longroof, although it was originally purchased as a complete car, Monteith did update the Nova with some new wheels, a TCI front clip, new brakes and some additional refinements like a new stereo.

The handsome sharp-edged lines of the Nova were typical ’60s conservative, and because they were so appealing to look at and so specific in nature, they’ve become very popular. The workmanship throughout this car is excellent, and you can show it with pride just about anywhere. If you’re a fan of Novas, you’ll appreciate its basic goodness and its tough sound and fast ride. Exterior

As with any build, the exterior is what draws you in. It only takes a couple glances, some flaws in the paint or waves in the body panels and you’re interest level can go from ten to zero in a few blinks of an eye. With Monteiths’ ’67, you’re glued and locked in; everything is as it should. Body work is glass-smooth and each panel is handsomely gaped from the next.

Body color can make or break and build, however, the Alpine Metallic is nothing short of timeless. The front of the car is characterized by a body-width chrome bumper, which houses modern LED marker lights.

Above the bumper, clear H1 headlights sit at the peaked corners of a ’67 Nova specific black anodized grille. Behind the tires on the front fenders, the Chevrolet cross flag emblems display red, white and blue and deceptively announce the presence of a 327.

Rear fenders illustrate, “Nova Chevy II” emblems. Out back a full-width chrome bumper is show ready and split LED tail lights look factory straight. Surrounding glass is factory tinted green to accent the body finish while the brightwork only adds to the allure. A closer look reveals high luster, chrome bowtie sideview mirrors and door handles.

Engine and Transmission

Now, on to the good stuff, right? Under the fully-functional cowl hood sits a reliable GM Performance Parts ZZ4 350 motor. A four-barrel carburetor feeds air and fuel to the Chevrolet aluminum intake manifold. Combustion occurs in a healthy-breathing set of Chevrolet performance cylinders while exhuast gases are expelled through a set of TCI headers into true dual exhaust equipped with Dynomax mufflers.

The engine bay was even painted black for a subtle yet clean appearance.

For ample spark, this ’67 relies on an HEI ignition system and utilizes a set of Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) Live Wires. Stainless fuel lines are plumbed throughout. For cooling, dual Spal electric fans spin behind a correctly fitted aluminum radiator. As with the rest of hte car, the engine bay is immaculate; clean and tidy. For skipping into the fast lane for long hauls is easy, too. With the venerable GM 200R4 overdrive transmission installed to back up all that small-block punch, it was a no-brainer. Can you say, “Cruise?” From there, power is diverted to a custom driveshaft and out to the familiar, 10-bolt rearend.

Chassis and Brakes

As with the rest of this Nova, the underside is just as impervious to dirt as the rest. Clean, you bet! Floors remain solid and rust isn’t even in this Novas vocabulary. Up front, a precision-assembled TCI front clip not only adds to its performance on the street, moreover, it allows for more aftermarket parts and components which add to this Novas overall credibility. Hanging from the front clip are a set of tubular upper and lower TCI control arms, which support large, power disc brakes and all new brake hoses. Out back, Global West multi-springs control bounce and provide a super-smooth ride. This Nova sits on 17-inch Aluminum Torque Thrust wheels, wrapped in P215/45/R17 front and P245/40/R17 Kuhmo radials.

Interior

The nicely finished interior of this Nova has been restored to its original color combination with custom components and custom materials. Fawn Pleather upholstery cover the seats and has just enough break-in time to feel every bit as good as it looks. The correct dash is painted Alpine metallic mist to match the body and is topped by a contrasting dash pad that hasn’t cracked or warped due to an overabundance of sun worship.

Water temperature, oil pressure and voltage gauges allow a birds eye view of all the necessary stats. In the middle of the dash, on the left is a transmission temperature gauge. A custom CD/IPod head unit occupies where this cars radio would be. The door panels are correct to the car.
