Many an American sports car has been given up in the name of something more practical, a “family car” if you will. It can be difficult to take a family road trip in a Corvette though. Even grocery shopping can be tricky if you’ve got a droptop that limits your trunk room. The obvious answer, of course, is to add a wagon-style roof to the back of the Corvette. People have been doing just that to the Corvette and other muscle cars for decades, combining American sportiness and practicality in a single vehicle. We’ve come across a few lately, and we sorta, kinda like them. It takes a little ingenuity, a little time, and a thick skin as people either love or hate these conversions.
Sure, this C3 Corvette Wagon found by a member of VW Vortex (Warning: Volkswagen fans are a rabid bunch, enter at your own risk) may not be the prettiest girl at the prom. In fact, it looks surprisingly utilitarian and used, which is just why we like it.
We’ve got very little actual information on this Corvette, as it was spotted in a parking lot in Pennsylvania and is apparently a “winter rat.” Since we’ve only got two pictures to work from, it’s hard to say where the rear end came from, but we’re thinking it looks like a truck cap from an older Chevy pickup. It even has what looks like a slight duckbill spoiler at the end.
Hell, he even added a trailer hitch to it, suggesting that not only does this guy go get groceries with his “ODD ROD,” but he tows with it too. How many Corvettes have you ever seen tow, well, anything? Come to think about it though, if you’re going to add a wagon roof to your sports coupe, why not a trailer hitch too? It’s pretty much the coolest wagon/toy hauler we can think of, and love it or hate it, you know this car gets a lot of attention. This guy obviously has a sense of humor, and as a cool, practical daily driver, we’d rock this contraption any day of the week. Would you?
