Kenny Hubbard could be one of the most talented racers you’ll ever meet at a radial tire event. In X275 Hubbard has one of the fastest machines in the country, he tunes a number of cars, and he runs what is practically a commercial kitchen out of his pit area to feed racers. At the Outlaw Street Car Reunion V (OSCR V) Hubbard plans on going rounds in his 1974 Nova while tuning several other cars to victories at the Beech Bend Raceway.

Hubbard’s racing career has spanned several classes and included multiple combinations and power-adders. Traveling across the country to compete, Hubbard has won several different events including one of the original OSCR events. All of that experience has developed his ability as both a racer and a tuner.

At OSCR V, Hubbard is going to be a busy man between keeping his Nova going and his tuning duties on other cars. “Right now I’ll be tuning Jeff Naiser’s Radial vs The World Camaro, Kyle Huettel’s car in the N/T Shootout if it’s done, and maybe a couple others. There’s not much difference with the cars because it’s still all about horsepower management, and about learning what the combination likes and how to keep it alive as far as timing and fueling,” Hubbard says.

The tuning side of things has been an evolution of sorts for Hubbard — he could never afford to pay someone to tune his cars so he learned how to do it himself. “I had to learn to tune or give up racing and I wasn’t going to give up. With the nitrous and blower combinations, I tore up and blew up enough parts while learning so I had to get better at it,” Hubbard explains.

Hubbard considers the OSCR V a must-attend event and he’s ready to come have some fun at Beech Bend Raceway.

“A big reason I come to this race is because I like to support Tyler. It’s a badass race and you really don’t want to miss it. It such a good variety of cars you get to see at the event. It’s also about the people — for me I go to a race and a racing family reunion breaks out every year at the OSCR. This event brings so many people together and that’s what makes it great,” Hubbard says.

Coming to OSCR V might be a fun time for Hubbard, but he still comes to win. The competition is always tough at the OSCR and Hubbard is ready to take on the challenge.

“I think it will take 4.30s to win in X275 and in Radial vs The World, you’ll need to run in the 3.70s to win. It will take fast and consistent passes to go rounds and win … you can take that to the bank. Back in the day you could just be consistent and win, but now there are no easy rounds at this race. You never know when someone is going to pull one out, so every round is tough and you have to be ready to go fast to win.”

Picking up a victory will be a team effort at OSCR V and Hubbard is thankful to have a strong team behind him. “I’m grateful for my team that includes my wife Billie Hubbard, Kenny Rodriguez, and Chad Broussard. They all help make the racing possible.”

Hubbard and his team will try to pick up the victory at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion V when it kicks off April 18-22.
