If you were looking for a high-performance Chevy in the late 1960s and early 1970s, something with more performance what Chevy offered straight from the factory, there were a number of options, including those cars modified by Baldwin-Motion. Known for their high-performance Chevy muscle cars, the cooperative between Baldwin Auto Company and Motion Performance remains one of the premiere builders of vintage Chevys even today. But nothing comes close to an original Baldwin-Motion car built in the heat of the muscle car wars, and thanks to Mecum Auctions, you have the chance to make one of these amazing vehicles your own at the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania auction in just over a week!
The authentic Baldwin-Motion Chevy hitting the Mecum auction block at the Harrisburg Auction, running from July 24th through the 27th, is a 1971 Chevelle SS prepped to Baldwin-Motion’s Phase III specifications.
This means that this bad boy pushes over 500hp and was originally sold with Baldwin-Motion Junior Partner Joel Rosen’s guarantee that it would pull at least an 11.5-second quarter mile at 120mph with a M/P approved driver on a sanctioned dragstrip.
Built to be raced, this particular Phase III Chevelle only has 36,000 original miles showing on its odometer.
Because all Baldwin-Motion cars were built according to the original purchaser’s specifications, with each car being different, exact specifications on this Chevelle are unclear on Mecum’s website. However, the lot listing specifically states that the car is “heavily documented” with all documents framed, including the original build sheet and vehicle registration. Proving even further that this is the real deal is a message and signature from “Mr. Motion” himself, Joel Rosen.
