Doing our daily check of the social media sites, we happened to catch a photo on ATI Racing‘s facebook fan page. The photo was obviously taken in the build room of ATI Racing’s transmission shop.Â
Seven double decker roll-away carts with 11 different ATI powerglides in various states of assembly are parked in a row with parts bins in the background. This photo caused us to wonder how many different versions of the powerglide transmission does ATI Racing make?
The quick answer is eight different variations, but don’t let that number fool you. Each of the eight different models has several different variants of their own. With a full range of gear ratios and gear types, there is a virtually unlimited number of combinations.Â
Before we try and blow your mind with how many different potential combinations there are, let us just regress back to the eight primary models of powerglides that can be purchased at ATI.
- Footbrake Pro Glide Powerglide. This is ATI’s most popular Bracket & Super Gas Powerglide drag racing transmission. With 1.76 gear set the max horsepower is 750 hp. With the 1.82 gear set, max horsepower is 550 hp.
- Transbrake Pro Glide Powerglide. Perfect for the Bracket and Super Gas classes, this transmission is rated at 750 hp with the standard 1.76 OEM helical gear set.
- Ultra Glide Powerglide. Ideal for Stock and Super Stock racers, ATI’s Ultra Glide Drag Racing Transmission utilizes the lightest components available. Rated at 600 maximum horsepower.
- 1.76 Super Set Pro Glide. ATI’s most popular Bracket & Super Gas Powerglide racing transmission. Rated at 800 maximum horsepower.
- Straight-Cut Pro Glide Powerglide. Perfect for the Bracket & Super Gas classes. The Pro Glide comes equipped with a 9310 Straight Cut Gear Set and is rated at 1,500 maximum horsepower.
- High Impact Pro Glide Powerglide. For high horsepower applications. ATI High Impact Powerglide Racing Transmissions are recommended for vehicles that produce more than 1500 HP and need the added reliability offered by these heavy-duty gear combinations.
- Super Glide 2. For use with in high horsepower race cars, pullers and monster trucks. Rated at 2,400 maximum horsepower.
- Super Glide 4. The Superglide 4 is the strongest Powerglide in ATI Racing’s inventory. Rated at a mind-blowing 3,500 horsepower.
Going back to the original photo that started this whole discussion on powerglides, it’s true that you judge a book by it’s cover. Just by looking at the glides in the photo, we can’t tell which model of ATI Powerglide they are. One thing is for certain however, they are plenty strong enough to take to the track.
