They say the need for speed runs in the family, and who are we to disagree? Many gearheads get their start in dad’s garage, though it isn’t just young lads who want to go fast. The famous Jan and Dean single “Little Old Lady From Pasadena” was all about an old lady who was a peerless street racer with a serious hot rod.
This next story, from BarnFinds.com, is about a man who went in search of his birth mother, and stumbled upon an interesting bit of family history. It turns out that his grandmother owned a 1967 Camaro SS/RS, and his mother still had the car, which had been well-preserved by the Arizona desert.
The story was sent into BarnFinds by “Zach S.” who sought out his birth mother in June of 2006. After meeting her and speaking of his interest in cars, Zach’s mother mentioned that his grandmother’s old Camaro was still in their yard. Zach checked it out, and the Camaro turned out to be a 1967 SS/RS with a three-on-the-tree automatic and rare bench seat option.
The 295 horsepower small-block Chevy was still intact, as were the hideaway headlights and tinted windows. Zach’s grandmother had bought it new from a Los Angeles County dealership, and the car had never strayed from the family. Zach finally got a chance to buy the car in 2010, and plans to restore it to its former glory.
Now that’s a heartwarming barn find story if we’ve ever heard it.
