9-Year Old Girl Survives Two Days In Overturned Monte Carlo

Car accidents remains the top cause of accidental death in America, even though emergency response teams can often get to the scene of a serious crash in just a few minutes. Of course, that’s if somebody was around to witness the accident. While rare, cases of car crashes going undiscovered for extended periods have happened before, and more often than not the victims have expired before help can arrive.

But in an incident that borders on miraculous, a 9-year old girl survived for two days after a one-car crash killed her father, reports Yahoo! news. The girl was trapped in the ‘95 Monte Carlo from Friday night until Sunday night of last week, surviving on Gatorade and Pop-Tarts.

According to police, the one-car accident killed Douglas Landon resulted in the Monte Carlo flipped upside-down in a culvert along a North Carolina state highway. The speedometer was stuck at 100 mph, though according to witnesses Douglas had his arm across his daughter, Jordan’s chest in an effort to protect her from the accident.

Police say the girl was “heroic” for remaining calm and collected during the ordeal. Nighttime temperatures dropped as low as 30 degrees, but Jordan, who was conscious and talkative when rescuers found her, survived by eating Pop-Tarts and Gatorade that was with her in the car. She had to be cut out from the Monte Carlo before being airlifted to the hospital. That’s one brave little girl.
