We’ve always been a fan a “Creamsicle Camaros” i.e. orange and white ’69 Indy Pace cars, and the guys over at Jet Hot Coatings have a real cool example owned by Mike Campbell out of Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Check it out on their Facebook page and on their website.
With only 33 built and the pit pass, driver’s pass card and letter from Indy authenticating that this is the real deal present and accounted for, you’d think that someone would put this old Pace Car Camaro in a museum and it would never see daylight again.
Well forget about that, Mike set out to update the car without muddling up this rare bird. The original 396 has been swapped out with a 454 with ’69 Corvette Tri-Power bolted together by Paul Paff racing and hooked up to the original 4-speed transmission. The valve covers are custom designed from solid aluminum block and damn near impervious Jet Hot coatings were utilized on the exhaust manifolds, mufflers and pipes. Check out this link for a 101 coating tutorial from Jet Hot.
Aside from removing the lettering on the doors and respraying them, the car has original paint, top and interior. So it’s the best of both worlds. Mostly stock, but breathed on for added performance and drivability.
Mike’s has a FLEET of cool cars and is a big fan of Jet Jot coatings. We’ve added some for you here, but you can check all of them out on Jet Hot Coatings Gallery.
