A few weeks ago, I posted the article announcing the challengers for the 2021 ChevyHardcore.com Feature Car of The Year. For the last several years, I have been asking you guys to help me choose the winner. This year, for the first time ever, we had a tie. Once again, you guys stepped up and narrowed it down to one car.
I will admit, this year’s winner is a little surprising to me. Don’t get me wrong, I feel the car is deserving beyond reproach, but I am still surprised. There were first- and second-gen Camaros, a C10 truck, a ’69 Chevelle, a ’65 Biscayne, a shoebox Nova, ’61 Corvette, and a ’57 and ’66 gasser. The choices were varied, and when voting closed, the tally revealed the Second-gen Camaro, ’61 Corvette, and the ’65 Biscayne, all garnered the same number of votes. That meant the announcement of a winner would be delayed and I would need you guys to break the three-way tie.
Although the final announcement is a week later than I had planned, I am able to announce this year’s feature car of the year. But before I do, let’s take a look at all of the included hot rods. Click on the title of each car and you can read the original article about it.
Joe Whitaker’s ’57 Chevy Gasser
Greg Porter’s Soulshaker ’66 Chevelle Gasser
Bob And Carrie Frampton’s ’61 Corvette
And the winner is…
Curt’s “big car” is definitely deserving of this honor. “I found the car in 2010 while doing an internet search to find a car I could build,” says Curt. “When I found it, it was sitting in a pole barn in Iowa and had a small block under the hood and a Powerglide behind it.” His Biscayne represents the hobby in a great way and is a tribute to thinking outside the box.
Inside this hot rod, one soon realizes a stock-ish vibe with an updated twist. The tan and brown vinyl seats and the addition of aftermarket gauges, chrome tilt steering column and billet steering wheel — not only add to the look of the car, but also help it actually stand out in a crowd.
The Biscayne relies on 427 cubic inches of bigness bolted to a highly strengthened 700R4 transmission and a 12-bolt rear with 3.73 gears and the requisite positraction differential.
Congratulations go out to Curt with his ride being crowned as the 2021 ChevyHardcore.com Feature Car of The Year.
