It’s been a few weeks since we first announced the 12 finalists that were hoping to be crowned as the Chevy Hardcore 2018 Feature Car Of The Year. When we made the announcement, the article asked you guys to give us a little help choosing the winner. The article showcase 12 of the coolest Chevy Hardcore feature cars that we brought you in 2018. We wanted to be fair and un-biased, and that’s why we needed help from you guys to choose which one of the twelve should be crowned as the big dog.
Early on, it looked like we were going to have a runaway winner. That is, until the last three days of voting. The final day had ticked away, the First- and Second-place cars were within nine votes of each other. Regardless of who won, each of these 12 cars was worthy of being included on our list.
Unfortunately, only we can only have one car be the feature car of the year. So, without further ado, congratulations go to Gordy Frank’s ’68 427SS.
With the help of a friend, Gordy found this particular car on eBay. The restoration had been started, but not completed. The body work and paint were done, and the interior was factory-correct and looked flawless.
Good looks aside, it’s what’s under the hood that makes this family friendly cruiser a wolf in sheep’s clothing. With 385 horsepower, the 427ci engine was streetable, but still able to impress all the kids in the passenger and rear seat.
Since a mere 1,778 427 SS cars were built, you would think such a low-production number would relegate this car to museum status. But, Gordy doesn’t keep it tucked away. Sure, he is selective about where and when it hits the road, but when it does, you can bet he and his wife are definitely enjoying the ride. That’s because, as Gordy said, “girls like convertibles.” You can check out the full feature on this stunning, family-oriented hot rod by clicking here.
