You might be wondering why on Earth we continue to cover Chevy Volt news. As the pet project of former CEO Bob Lutz and possibly the one thing standing between Chevrolet and keeping all these cool big horsepower LS plants and CAFE emission standards, the Volt’s success could be the difference between a future Z/28 and a future of six-cylinder Camaros and Corvettes.
Earlier this week, Chevrolet dealers in all 50 states started taking orders for the ’12 Chevrolet Volt. The biggest problem with the Volt (besides its questionable battery life and need for conventional gasoline) has been the price.
For the new year, General Motors priced the Volt at $39,995 (including an $850 destination charge) before federal and state incentives, which should help bring the tiny sedan’s price point down $1,005 less than the sticker price of the 2011 model.
Of course, there’s some new colors and packages available with the Volt, and since we’re already here talking about a Volt, we figured “What the hell” and we’re going to tell you about them anyway:
Ranging between a total of seven option packages, a fully loaded Volt equipped with luxurious bits like leather seats, a backup camera, navigation system, premium paint and aluminum wheels, comes in at $46,265.
The ’12 Volt also comeswith two additional interior accent options: white and “Spiced red” along with two new exterior colors, Summit White and Blue Topaz Metallic. Some additional features for ’12 include standard keyless entry with passive locking, OnStar turn-by-turn navigation, Chevrolet MyLink and 17-inch alloys with black inserts (late availability).
