SEMA 2013: Quick Fuel Shows Off Unique Throttle-body EFI System

With an increasingly crowded market forf street-friendly, easy-to-install throttle-body EFI systems, Quick Fuel Technology is distinguishing its product with innovative hardware.

The Quick Fuel QFI system comes with throttle body, injectors, ECU, hand controller and fuel pump with integrated pre-filter.

Each of the four throttle body ports on the QFI system features a patent-pending, 8-hole annular discharge sleeve that injects fuel into a venturi where air speed is at its peak.

“It atomizes the fuel much better and you don’t get the puddling issues,” says Quick Fuel marketing manager Bill Wetzel. “Also, there are four idle circuits below the throttle plates. This helps with quicker starts and better throttle response.”

The QFI throttle body fits on a traditional 4150 footprint and features four 62 lb/hr injectors that are easily replaced. It’s also available with either a polished aluminum or Quick Fuel’s unique Black Diamond finishes.

“The system is good for up to 500 horsepower,” adds Wetzel. “The customer can always upgrade the injectors. We also use industry standard sensors, so something like the TPS is not unique to the throttle body. It’s much easier to replace a bad sensor just by going down to the parts store.”

Due for release in early 2014, the system does require a return fuel line but comes with a unique clamp-on mounting bung for the O2 sensor. The customer just has to drill a hole in the exhaust downpipe or header collector, then secure the bung with hose clamps, or it can be welded in place.

The QFI system can be programmed with either the handheld controller with self learning capability or with a laptop hooked to the ECU for more precise tuning. There’s also an on-board ignition driver, so a spark box isn’t necessary, and the ECU also includes a 2-step rev control.

Future plans for the QFI call for E85 compatibility and modifying the wiring harness to support dual throttle bodies.

Quick Fuel Technology also introduced new fuel pumps, fuel filters and fuel regulators at the SEMA Show.

In other new-product news from SEMA, Quick Fuel is introducing four new electric fuel pumps. The first is a street-oriented model rated at 230 gph. The three race pumps are rated at 260, 300 and 400 gph. The 260 and 400 models feature an externally adjustable bypass. Compatible with all types of fuels, the pumps are constructed with a 316 stainless-steel armature shafts and critical internals receive Dyna-Blue wear-resistant coating.

Quick Fuel also showed off canister and in-line style fuel filters, each available with either 10-micron cellulose or 40-micron stainless-steel filtering media. Construction features include hard-coat annodized billet end caps that are equipped with Viton O-rings. Finally, Quick Fuel introduced 2- and 4-port fuel-pressure regulators. Also compatible with all fuels, the regulators are adjustable from 5-to-8 psi.
