If you have been paying attention to the street machine world lately, you know the 1988–1994 GM “OBS” trucks are absolutely on fire right now. They have gone from being cheap work trucks to legitimate cruisers and autocross machines. But while the exteriors look great slammed on big wheels, the interiors often show their age, specifically that clunky factory steering column. IDIDIT showed up to PRI 2025 with a solution that cleans up the cab without losing any of the creature comforts you actually use.

The biggest gripe with the stock setup has always been the visuals. It is bulky and has that awkward plastic housing for the multifunction switch. Eddie Mohr, sales manager for IDIDIT, was pretty blunt about why they redesigned it. He explained, “We came out with an’ 88-94 OBS column, but we put our own little spin on it. We didn’t like that ugly little bump-out that GM had on the column, so we came out with our own billet levers and electronic package. It’s all plug-and-play, and it looks really nice and finished in the vehicle.”

That “ugly bump-out” he mentioned is gone. The new steering column is streamlined and smooth, but IDIDIT didn’t strip out the functionality. They managed to integrate the cruise control, wipers, and dimmer switch right into the billet aluminum levers. It keeps the dash looking clean while keeping the truck usable for long drives. It also comes with a power control module to handle the wiper speeds and ignition accessories, so you aren’t hacking up your harness to make it work. It bolts right into the factory location, features an eight-position tilt, and is fully collapsible for safety. Expect to see these land in early 2026 with a price tag around $2,000 for the whole package.

On the flip side, if you are building something strictly for the track, they also brought out a new cut-to-fit race column. It is a bare-bones, 35-inch unit that you can trim to size. They also showed off an adjustable Pro Fab column with 7 inches of adjustment range. Mohr explained the versatility: “You can partner it with our quick release as well. There is a lot of versatility and travel and length built into it. We have mounts for the dash as well. The quick releases are sold separately, but it is a GM top spline, so it bolts and mates with our quick releases because you never know what bolt pattern people want.”
