Hays claims this new “Dragon Claw Clutch” is a game changer. After learning about it, we are definitely not disagreeing. I mean– the specs alone are astonishing.
We met up with Ross Mccombs from Hays Clutches at this year’s PRI show to get some more details on this hot new product. He tells us, “This is the only double disk clutch with double sprung hubs. There are two reasons that’s important– anybody that has more than 500 horsepower has to go to a double disc, and there’s nobody else out there with double sprung hubs– so they’re listening to that clatter as they go down the road. With sprung hubs, you don’t have that clatter. Another thing it does that is very important, is it absorbs all shock and impact.”
On top of its incredible features, over stock, you lose no clutch pedal feel– which is rare for a clutch of this capability. The double disc is ideal for forced induction applications and gives ample surface area for clamping, all while weighing in at a mere 35 pounds. The lightweight aluminum and proprietary ceramic friction material makes for an application that is both streetable and aggressive.
And, wow, can they take some power! The Dragon Claw single disc can handle up to 600 horsepower, the double disk 1,100, and the triple disk a whopping 1,800. “There’s no limit on how far you can go with these things,” said Ross. There’s no doubt that these clutches definitely stand far out from the rest of the competition.
And if that’s not enough to impress you, companies like GM, Chrysler, and Ford are all using them in their high horsepower applications such as the Hellcat, GT350R, and soon to be ZL1. If that doesn’t show you what quality pieces these clutches are, we don’t know what will.
