Not long ago we published an article asking if GM’s under rated Mark V BBC could make monster power on pump gas. The answer was yes. You can check out the article by clicking here.

This article received a lot of attention, primarily because everyone likes to make big power, and using a Big Block Chevy to get there is extra cool.  Big toys for big boys, right?

One of the responses we received from the article was from a long time Chevy Hardcore contributor and expert in fuel delivery systems, John Dickey from AED Performance. John clued us in on a customer of his that had been working on a 555 cid BBC street engine that runs on 87 octane. That right, 87 octane! Not event the premium unleaded stuff.

According to John, there is nothing exotic in this engine. No high dollar parts.

Ok, on the surface, there’s nothing too unusual about that. Here’s the kicker: That street engine makes 825 on the dyno!

“Not anything bogus about the numbers. It’s truly legitimate,” says Dickey.
