This ’67 Camaro RS Is The Ultimate Prize For One Lucky Person

Dream Giveaway

When Chevrolet released the all-new ’67 Camaro, one of the sales brochures that heralded the car stated, “It’s the most talked about car on the road. That’s because its excitement is contagious. Sports-styling. Instant obedience. You just don’t drive a Camaro. You command it.” The marketing – as well as the car’s good looks – was a huge success, and that first year Chevrolet sold 220,906 units.

The Camaro features a billet grille with electrically operated hideaway headlamps.

The term “musclecar wars” had not yet been coined, but Chevrolet went head-on into battle with Ford and its Mustang. Back then, you could buy a Camaro with as much horsepower as you could handle. The same is true today.

The first-generation Camaro is a true legend, and for many, there is an overwhelming desire to own one of these icons of automotive history as a bucket list item. Unfortunately for many, life gets in the way and the opportunity is often left unrealized. But it doesn’t have to be.

All This Could Be Yours

What would you say if we told you that you could own a restored ’67 Camaro Rally Sport for the low, low, price of only $3.00? Have we got your attention? What if we sweetened the pot and added a new 2017 Camaro to the price? You heard that correctly, if you purchase a single $3.00 sweepstakes ticket and your ticket is the winner, you win the Dream Giveaway grand-prize. And, not only do you win these gorgeous ’67 and 2017 Camaros, but as they say on the 3:00 a.m. infomercials, ” but wait, there’s more.”

Wilwood brakes grab hard at all four corners for stopping power.

The gorgeous ’67 Camaro Rally Sport is only 1/3 of the sweepstakes prize package. Another piece of the package is a Lingenfelter Signature Edition Camaro ZL1 Camaro. But, the folks at Dream Giveaway are not done yet. Along with both Camaros, the lucky winner will also receive $35,000 to use towards paying the taxes. The drawing will be on October 13, 2017. As cool as the new ZL1 Camaro is, we’re classic car guys, and the ’67 Rally Sport is what we are interested in.

You can drive it with the kid gloves off, stop it like modern Camaro, and take it on road trips with reliable A/C, comfortable seats, great suspension, and two thumbs up from onlookers wherever you go. – Christopher Phillip

A Classic Recipe

This first of the first-gen 1967 Rally Sport has been completely rebuild into a one-off restomod that definitely commands attention. The first thing you can’t help but notice is the mirror-like, Tuxedo Black exterior with red stripes. And although a ’67 Camaro never came from the factory with a cowl-induction hood, the fresh air fixture has become an aftermarket staple on many Chevrolet models.

One thing this classic does possess are the iconic RS hideaway headlights. In the interest of reliability though, the vacuum-operated system has been replaced by an electronic unit that is guaranteed to allow you to light up the night every time you pull the switch. Finally, did you notice the Billet Specialties 18×10 and 18×8 wheels wrapped in Nitto radials?

The car’s great looks inspired Christopher Phillip of Dream Giveaway to tell us, “There is no doubt that concours-level first-gen Camaros are a blast from the past to enjoy at shows, but what about the visceral excitement of turning the key on your Camaro and power shifting through the gears?”

Christopher continued, “That’s what’s best about this 1967 Camaro. You can drive it with the kid gloves off, stop it like modern Camaro, and take it on road trips with reliable A/C, comfortable seats, a great suspension, and two thumbs up from onlookers wherever you go.”

We can’t think of anything much cooler than abig-block-powered Camaro.

Now that you’ve caught onlooker’s eyes, it’s time to grab their ears. Bolted to the frame in front of the driver is a chrome-encrusted engine bay with a 402ci big-block engine that has received its fair share of upgrades. For starters, it has been opened to 408 cubic inches, and bolted to the deck surfaces are a pair of massaged cylinder heads that were glommed from a 454. Merging the two heads is an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake that receives the fuel from a 750 cfm Proform carburetor. Inside, you’ll find a Lunati camshaft with .527/.553-inch lift and 224/234 degrees of duration at .050-inch lift. The firing of the compressed gasoline mixture is handled by an MSD ignition and 8mm Taylor spark plug wires.

Although no dyno sheet is available, we can truthfully tell you that the engine delivers more than enough power to turn the rear tires into asphalt crayons at will, but more on that later. Finally, there is more chrome under the cowl-induction hood than most show cars possess.

Behind the tire-melting engine is a Tremec five-speed transmission that allows you to row your own gears as you see fit. Whether you want to downshift before smashing the throttle to embarrass a Mustang owner, or gently slip into overdrive for cruising at highway speeds, it’s nice to have the options. Finally, an Auburn positraction unit rotates a Richmond 4.10 ring-and-pinion set for get up and go, no matter which gear you’re in.

Having a lot of horsepower is great, but that power is useless if you don’t have the suspension to control it. That’s why Detroit Speed control arms and rear leaf springs are used. As you glance through the spokes of those great looking wheels, you also know that stopping is not an issue because you spied the Wilwood disc brakes on all four corners.

A favorite color for many – chrome.

Knowing that whoever wins the sweepstakes will probably spend most of their free time driving the car, Dream Giveaway has made it as comfortable as possible. For startes, it’s impossible not to notice the TMI Pro-Series low back bucket seats. They actually look close to the original-issue factory buckets, but deliver more comfort and better stability to the driver – especially when those corners challenge you. But again, more on that later. The dash and console gauges are original equipment, and the Vintage Air is needed for this “hot” car.

Hang On, I Got This

As I’ve hinted too, driving this car is pleasure, and I was able to experience that pleasure first hand. I’m not sure if it was a momentary lapse in judgement, or whether the folks at Dream Giveaway were not privvy to my driving reputation. Regardless, they handed me the keys to take the ’67 for a drive, and I didn’t even need to sign a release form.

As soon as the engine fired, I was certain the big-block is probably delivering close to 500 horses, but that’s just a guess. It does have a strong musclecar-esque idle, and throttle response is very good. It did take me a little bit to get used to the ease at which the hydraulic clutch worked, but that’s a good thing. If you sit at a red light for very long, that easy-working pedal is a godsend.

I immediately began my “test” by entering into the traffic of Largo, Florida. This is about as stop-and-go as it gets. Like I said, the clutch is great to work with, and even with the high-performance nature of the big-block, the temperature never got into an unsafe range. Next up was a piece of highway that allowed the Camaro to stretch its legs.

The black Morrokide vinyl covered seats stay true to the ’67 Camaro’s Deluxe interior option.

With the 4.10 gears in the 10-bolt, the Tremec is a perfect match. With a long stretch of road ahead of me, I was able to shift smoothly through the gears with the engine RPM ticking 5,000 each time I shifted. This car is a blast to drive while playing at a substantial engine RPM, and when I reached that fifth gear and a nice cruising speed of 70 m.p.h., the engine RPM dropped to a comfortable 2,200, and the ride was incredibly enjoyable.

Typically, my experience behind the wheel of a musclecar sees me driving straight to a finish line, but when I was directed to make a left turn after the long straightaway, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I was greeted with, was a section of roadway that happens to meander through a corporate park. Luckily, the exhaust note of the Camaro is not what anyone could call offensive, so I was able to “test” without drawing too much attention. I will say that I was glad that the interior has been upgraded with the TMI seats.

IMG_6925I have experienced the unwanted feeling of sliding around on a stock seat before, and the extra bolstering in these additions is highly welcomed. If there was anything that I would change – and this is s stretch, it’s the power steering. It works great, but does seem to be little too easy, and could cause you to overcompensate if you get into a bad situation. Personally, I think the effort required to steer the car could be adjusted simply by adding a little camber to the alignment. Like I said, it’s nothing major, just my observation.

When the driving portion of the day was over, there was a serious amount of disappointment. None of that was directed at the car mind you, my disappointment stemmed from the fact that the drive was over – but I have a remedy for that situation. All that is needed to alleviate my disappointment is to hear from whoever wins the cars. So, if you happen to be the lucky guy or gal that becomes the next owner, all I need you to do is let me know where you live (complete address please), and then also what week you will be away on vacation. I can handle the rest…
