Holley LS Fest East 2018: Day Two Coverage Of The LS Super Show

Day two of Holley’s LS Fest East 2018 started off with overcast skies and much cooler weather as the spectators showed up. According to the staff at Beech Bend Raceway Park, this was the largest crowd that they have ever had for this event. The stands were packed, the midway was full, and cars kept rolling all day long. Saturday’s activities included more drag racing qualifying, the road course challenge, autocross, show and shine, dyno challenge, drifting and the burnout contest. There wasn’t a dull moment all day long at the show.

The grounds were buzzing with people as the day progressed, and the car count was unbelievable. Vehicles were placed on just about every square inch of space that Beech Bend has to offer. With more vehicles came a better variety, as well. LS Fest has a tendency of bringing vehicles out that have yet to be seeen and some of them are absolutely jaw-dropping. The fit and finish of some of these builds can only truly be appreciated in person.

Dennis Quinn, who has been in the paint and body business for 50 years and it shows. Dennis’ 1953 Nash Rambler Country Club is a phenomenal piece of work and absolutely flawless. The black paint acts like a mirror and reflects every detail that surrounds it. Dennis has spent the last two years working on the car and recently finished the build, just in time for LS Fest.

The car sports an LS1 that has been gone through but retains a a stock bottom end with an upgraded camshaft. The first thing you’ll notice about the engine is the Inglese EFI system. Dennis stated, “The hardest part of this build was getting the throttle bodies in sync. It took me about to week to get them worked out.”

It’s a good thing he did because this stacked injection look right at home under the hood of the black Rambler and all of the wiring on this car is immaculate. The Billet Specialties valve covers hide those ugly LS coils quiet nicely and keep your attention on the other shiny things, like the black Billet Specialties front runner system. The engine is mated to a 700R-4 and drives a custom 9-inch rear end. The Ride Tech suspension makes sure the car is setting just right and as low to the ground as possible. The car tucks the wheels so well that the Billet Specialties 18 and 20-inch wheels virtually go unnoticed.

If drag racing is more you speed, LS Fest has a lot to offer. Kari Bahus’ C-10 Blazer, known as Open Container, is definitely a crowdpleaser. The LSX engine sports a huge Whipple supercharger and a shot of nitrous via his favorite supplier, Nitrous Outlet. This is a wild ride that was knocking down 8.90’s all day and hanging the wheels high in the sky on virtually every pass Kari made. Kari stated,” It’s gonna’ fly after I stop clowning and showing out.”

Since Kari doesn’t have the use of his legs, this eight-second Blazer is piloted with the use of hand controls. You would never know this by watching Kari drive — he can pedal this monster with the best drivers out there and bring the Open Container down out of a massive wheelstand with ease.

Unfortunately, our day was ended a little short due to rain. However, the Holley crew did manage to get the burnout contest rolling before the precipitation ended the fun. The contestants consisted of everything from a rock bouncer to some classic and not-so-classic hot rods. The winner of the contest was a 1956 Chevrolet wagon; the car rolled out and instantly emitted a huge cloud of green smoke as it annihilated the tires during the time limit. As if that wasn’t enough of a show for the crowd, the ’56 destroyed the tires to the point that they caught on fire for a brief moment. The crowd went wild and the the rains commenced.

Hopefully the weather will hold out for the third and final day of LS Fest!
