With the famed Detroit Autorama coming up this weekend, that can only mean one thing- immaculate rides all on display for the public to see. But unlike some of the vehicles that will make their debut at the event and compete for the prestigious Ridler Award, some will be there merely for the sake of showing what they’re made of. Father and son Art and Jim Silver’s 1969 Camaro will be among them, according to the Observer & Eccentric.

While the Silvers will be traveling from the Farmington Hills area of Michigan with the Houchins family we featured over on Rod Authority, they will not be pursuing the Ridler Award along side Bob Houchins’ 1940 Ford convertible, and for good reason. While the Silvers’ Camaro is quite nice, it’s virtually factory-original standings and frequent summer use knock it out of Ridler contention. The Silvers, however, don’t regret that at all.

With it’s original 350ci small block, among many other original components, factory air conditioning and a convertible top, the Camaro is a rarity compared to the ‘69 Coupe version of the F-body. And with many original parts, that makes this car worth even more.

You’ll also find the original red paint with white stripes on the car, a black leather interior, including bucket seats, an automatic transmission and cowl induction hood on the car. Trim work and a bit of engine dress-up are about the only things you’ll find on the car that are not straight from the factory.

The Silvers' Camaro will be joined by plenty of other Chevys on the show floor, including these two unique creations.
A true car lover’s dream, according to the Silvers, the 1969 Camaro will be on display starting tomorrow at the Autorama at Detroit’s Cobo Center.

As part of the Michigan Hot Rod club, Art Silver was asked to display the car at the event and jumped at the unique opportunity. So now, long before the car can be taken out on another summer cruise, it will get the spotlight it deserves along side cars built by some of the most highly acclaimed builders in the country. As die-hard Chevy fans, we couldn’t be more excited.
