As the show season kicks off, Goodguys enthusiasts are counting the weekends until the next hot rod event. But just when you thought that enthusiasm surrounding the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association couldn’t get any bigger, association president Marc Meadors goes out and blows the doors off his competition in his first Pro Mod race of the season. What’s even better is that this recent race also marked Meadors’ career best ET in his 1969 Camaro dubbed Pure Hell2.

Meadors is no stranger to the car scene with his father, Gary Meadors, heading up the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association back in 1983. But beyond the show scene, Marc Meadors enjoys his time behind the wheel of a ‘69 Camaro, competing in the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod drag racing class.
While we won’t give away all of his secrets, we will tell you that Meadors’ Pure Hell2 Camaro is one heck of a track beast. With a blown 451ci BAE-6 engine topped with a PSI C Rotor blower assembly, Meadors’ car can handle anything he throws at it.
This powerhouse is backed by a Lenco 3-speed transmission and a NCRC NSX converter, giving the Camaro’s wheels as much of a workout as the engine.
While Meadors had many drag racing career accomplishments in the 1990s, it wasn’t until a little over a week ago that his career hit an all-time high, as he propelled his Chevy Pro Mod down the track at Sonoma Raceway to both a career and national record.

During qualifying for the 8-car show promoted by the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mods, Meadors managed to make his Camaro the first converter-driven Pro Mod to break 250mph, with a trap speed of 252mph.
Adding injury to insult, Meadors then drove his car to a career best ET with a 5.759-second quarter mile at 252.24mph against Mike Maggio during semi finals to secure his place in the final race. It was also in this semi-final race that Maggio and Meadors completed the fastest side-by-side Pro Mod race in history.
Unfortunately, when Meadors lined up against Dan Nickelson, who secured the world record for the fastest ET in a Pro Mod at the event, for the final race, something went wrong. Meadors’ trans brake button failed, causing him to break the lights before the tree was activated, which led to Nickelson’s win and solo run down the track.
While the red light was a disappointment for the Goodguys Racing team, Meadors couldn’t have been happier with his weekend.

“Nothing to hang our heads over,” Meadors was quoted as saying in a recent Goodguys news release. “I’m so proud of Crew Chief Jason Bunker, Danny Miller, Billy Fereira and Greg Lee for making our Pure Hell2 Camaro the fastest converter driven blown Pro Mod in history. That right there made our weekend. To take down Maggio in that historic semi-final and run our career best ET and speed in the process – that’s the kind of things you dream about. I’ve never been part of something like that before. It was the best moment in my racing career and without my great sponsors Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, Red Line Oil, Fiber Optic Supply, Tim McAmis Race Cars and DMPE none of it would have been possible.”
Congratulations goes out to Meadors and his Pure Hell2 Camaro team on their accomplishments. We can’t wait to see what else they achieve this year.
