Chevy Cars Go Faster Than Ever At Indy!

Chevy cars are running faster than ever! The news from Yahoo Sports came that on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, during Goodyear Tire testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCARS‘s newest innovative automotive creation, the Generation-6 car, blew away drivers and crew chiefs alike. A speed of 214 mph had been seen. After Mark Martin wrote on Twitter that he had hit 212 mph in the backstretch during the morning session, Jeff Gordon walked over to his team to see what it had recorded. “They said 214 and I said, ‘My gosh, it really is fast,”’ Gordon said.

While the track record is 186.293 for average lap speed and 48.311 for lap time, respectively, was set by Casey Mears on August 8, 2004, and it still stands, there were some pretty intense speeds shown throughout the testing session. Martin’s lap time was a blistering 185.835 mph, while Gordon’s tire testing time today came in at a blazing 187.227. If these trials had been an official event, Gordon’s speed would stand as the new record.

While nobody expects the cars to go anywhere close to these speeds in late July due to the heat, ChevyHardcore.com was encouraged by the early performance of the new Generation-6 cars on one of America’s most historic tracks. But the new NASCAR Generation-6 car has broken five track records in nine races so far this season. So going over 200 mph at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a sign that another speed record might be set when the 2013 Sprint Cup Series comes to Indy for the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 28.
