Surrender your Title, License and Man-Card, Sir.

GM’s Chevrolet brand had the most top-ranked vehicles in this year’s J.D. Power’s survey of vehicle owner satisfaction. The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic lead the way in the sub-compact class over the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent which came in second and third respectively.

J.D. Power’s annual APEAL survey ranks new cars by how well their owners like them after 90 days. Vehicle owners were asked about 77 different aspects of their vehicles and those ratings were combined into a single score.

The survey name stands for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout.

Given that the Sonic has a factory invoice price of $14,225 with an MSRP of $14,785, the little car is affordable to a large audience. The car is really too new to accurately predict the 5-year cost to own but projected costs run to $30,275 based on a $0.40 per mile rate.

While most of the customer reviews that we read had great things to say about the car, we did notice that none of the responses were backed by the reviewers actual name. Most went by a cutesy psudonym intended to hide their real identity. We wondered if this was a case of having fun with a moped but not wanting your friends to see you driving it.

The good news is… the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave both the 2012 Sonic Hatchback and Sedan 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for safety— the highest rating possible, which is impressive for a sub-compact.

Great for mileage and safety,  this would make a superb town commuter car for high-school and college students but full grown men can expect the Highway Patrol to ask for your title, license and man card when they pull you over.
