Royal Purple announced the results of their “Show It Off at SEMA” contest in June, with this year being the first for the Royal Purple Ladies feature vehicle winner. Carrie Strange, co-owner of Strange Motion Rod and Custom Construction Inc., submitted her photo entry along with a one-page essay explaining why her 1964 Corvair should be chosen as the Ladies’ feature vehicle.
The Covair was slated to undergo a radical resto-mod, complete with a custom tube chassis that relocates the engine to the front of the original factory rear engine design. According to the entry essay, Carrie’s ’64 Corvair would host a Chevy 4.3-liter V6 equipped with Webber sidedraft carbs and a PowerMaster XS Torque (part #9526), a smaller starter with big power.
Also outlined in the orginal entry was a custom Fatman and Ride Tech suspension with Budnik aluminum wheels.
We’ve collected a few “leaked” photos of Carrie’s build, which is still coming together with one-week to go before the SEMA show, and we can tell you that the driveshaft is custom (as you would expect with an engine relocation), and Wilwood big brake kits are used for stopping power. “I got big ones,” Carrie proudly tweeted.
Sadly we don’t have photos of the finished project… yet. We will drop by and see the final product at the Royal Purple booth during the SEMA show next week. Look for an update and car feature upcoming. Until then, enjoy these preview shots.
