When you go to car shows, most gear heads have a story about the one car they should have never sold. They might even be looking to buy that exact car back, if they can ever find it. Many forums have posts with people asking “Have you seen my car?”
With so many cars and so many gear heads searching, it’s rare to find your long lost car. For one man, RobsIron on Team Chevelle, he was lucky enough to find his long lost Chevelle. “This was my daily driver from 1985-1988. Sold it in ’88 and never forgot about it.” For the last 26 years RobsIron has been lusting after his favorite Chevelle.
He tells the story about all the hell he raised in the car as well, which caused him to lose his license a few times. When he sold the car “It had a high compression over cammed tunnel rammed small block with a rockcrusher and a 4:56 12 bolt posi.” Even with this set up, he drove the car everyday to work. That was a 50 mile round trip for him.
Life happened, and he sold the car for his girlfriend for $3200. Her car got repo’d, so he paid it off, $950 was all that was owed on her Tercel. By this point raising hell in the Chevelle lost RobsIron his license for 5 years, so the decision to sell the Chevelle was helped along.
RobsIron said that he searches for 1965-1969 Chevelles every single day. This one popped up in Asheville, NC and he knew it was his old ‘Velle. The header panel and trunk lid still had the stripes that he added to it. Two other unique features were stretched rear wheel wells and a 1968 bumper that has the back up lights in them.
Unfortunately, the car hadn’t been cared for. RobsIron says that the entire car was gutted, no interior, motor, trans, or anything else. Just a rolling shell. He also had to buy a 1972 Chevelle as a package deal in order to get back his ’69.
He does plan on restoring the car back to its former glory. You can follow the progress over on Team Chevelle, where he likes to hang out.
