Driving a car can be an amazing experience. The roar of the engine, the wind blowing in your hair, and the sweet smell of gasoline. On the flip side, driving a car can be one of the most frustrating experiences you will encounter, especially if you have to sit through traffic.
Recently we had one of our biggest pet peeves when driving happen and wondered, what are the biggest pet peeves most people have? With the power of Facebook at our tips, we hopped on and asked the masses for their biggest pet peeves when driving. With a list in hand, we narrowed the results down to three of the biggest.
#1 Slow Drivers
There’s nothing wrong with driving cautious and slow, especially with ill weather. The problem most people have with slow drivers, is when they are holding up tons of traffic. One of the biggest pet peeves was when people were in the passing lane, but going slow. If they want to drive slow, get into the slow lane. The other problem people have is when drivers aren’t doing the speed limit. If the flow of traffic on a freeway, highway or interstate is 70 mph and a driver hops into the fast lane doing 55 mph, that will surely upset the people behind.
#2 No Turn Signals
This handy invention lets other drivers know where you are going. Imagine that, with a simple flip of a switch, you can inform other drivers of your direction(insert sarcasm).
Editor Opinion: I’m going to jump right in here and say that this is by far my biggest pet peeve. I feel this is the rudest thing people do when driving. What usually happens to me is that somebody is merging onto the freeway, which should warrant a turn signal as a sign of courtesy since I’m letting you in. But no, these drivers won’t use a turn signal. Then what really bugs me to no end is that they use one of a lane change. Merging onto the freeway, something that is mandatory if you’re going down the on-ramp doesn’t need a turn signal, but an optional lane change does?
Our Facebook fans commented a lot about the lack of turn signals from turning into driveways to cutting them off without a signal. There’s no good reason to NOT use a turn signal, unless they don’t work, which is highly unlikely. Even motorcycles have turn signals to let drivers know of their intentions. If you’re not sure how to use a turn signal, check out this wikiHow.
#3 Texting/Not Paying Attention
One consistent pet peeve from Facebook was people who text message while driving. We are going to group this in with some others, such as eating, drinking, and all around not paying attention. When you’re in a car that weighs one or two tons and is traveling at over 55 miles per hour, that action deserves your full attention. Texting has been proven time and time again to cause accidents, or is at least involved in accidents. If a driver is chomping down on a cheeseburger and talking on the phone, they aren’t 100% paying attention to whats happening on the road.
Not only is texting and driving a pet peeve, this action is extremely dangerous. The second a driver looks down at their phone that’s an un-manned hunk of steel driving down the road. These drivers might easily run over a pedestrian as well.
The first two pet peeves, slow driving and not utilizing turn signals can be attributed to not paying attention as well. Perhaps we actually focus on driving instead worrying about checking the latest sports score on our smartphones. If you have other pet peeves, please let us know in the comments section below!
