SEMA 2025: TMI Gives The Copmaro A Much-Needed Interior Upgrade

It could be argued that the third-gen Camaro is one of Chevrolet’s most under-appreciated classics. In its day, the car was fairly quick and fairly revolutionary. In today’s market, it remains one of the few truly affordable options for muscle car lovers who are looking for an easy timeless build. That’s especially true when those enthusiasts have the support of companies like TMI Products.

What Is The Copmaro?

The B4C police Camaro was Chevrolet’s response to Ford’s Special Service Package Mustang option for law enforcement agencies. Ford sold its first SSP Mustang in 1982 and it wasn’t until 1991 that Chevy offered a competitor. The Bowtie brigade took components from their little-known 1LE curve carver, added the firm’s hot L98 350, an automatic transmission, and a heavy-duty suspension, and added Corvette-style brakes, a baffled fuel tank, a bigger alternator, and air conditioning. The result was the B4C Camaro, badged as a simple Rally Sport and marketed directly to police departments. In 1991, Chevy moved 591 B4Cs to police departments. For the 1992 model year, Chevrolet sold 589 of these special Camaros. Copmaro was the first 1992 B4C delivered to the California Highway Patrol.

Fun fact: Ford discontinued the SSP Mustang forever when it introduced the rebodied Fox-4/SN95 Mustang in 1994, but Chevrolet sold B4C Camaros through the end of third-gen production and continued offering them for the fourth-gen’s entire existence, from 1993 to 2002.

The car’s first civilian owner, who happened to be a CHP Driving Instructor, knew the agency would begin retiring the B4C Camaros at around 95K miles, and that’s exactly how he purchased Copmaro – with 95,400 miles on the odometer. He wanted a fun autocross car, and all his experiences with the B4C made him believe it would be an excellent contender. In addition to rebuilding and stroking the engine to 383 cubic inches, and installing a 700R4 four-speed, owner number one bolted up a Positraction rearend with “aggressive gearing.” He also installed a serious Panhard rod along with Konis and 800-lb.-in. springs in the front, and adjustable Ridetech Fox shocks and 400-lb.-in. springs in the rear.

With that, the car officially launched his autocross career, and he ran it hard until deciding to upgrade to a 1972 Corvette with LS power.

The Backup Car

A few years and a couple of owners later, the Camaro was purchased by George Reiss of Reiss Racing and Restoration. George promptly gave the car its Copmaro nickname and used it as a backup car and starter car for his daughter’s first forays into course driving. George installed 19-inch XXR wheels, along with 305 tires, and mixed up the custom Electric Blue pearl that gives the car its current shine. According to George, the Camaro was a tough vehicle that always performed its best, even when it was being whipped by up to three separate drivers at the same event.

In addition to racing, Reiss Racing and Restoration builds and sells championship-level muscle cars. Eventually, Reiss decided to sell the Copmaro, but only to someone who would appreciate the car and continue its legacy of being a bad-to-the-bone autocross stalwart. That’s where Ryan Foss, the Chevy’s current owner comes in. A video director and producer who was working on a project with Reiss, he happened to inquire about the Chevy, and, as they say, the rest is history.

Preserving Copmaro’s Legacy

According to Reiss, the Copmaro has made more autocross laps than any other car he’s seen. In addition to giving the Copmaro a little TLC, Foss, the new owner, plans to use it as a fun cruiser and a video chase vehicle. Naturally, a big part of that transformation involves new HRE wheels and an awesome new interior that was provided by the pros at TMI.

The Copmaro is more than a cool version of one of Chevrolet’s most underappreciated Camaros. It’s a survivor, a racer, and, perhaps more importantly, a rolling piece of automotive history. From chasing suspects to chasing cones, this third-gen Camaro has lived a full throttle life, and under Foss’ care, it’s clear that story is far from over. Thanks to TMI Products, the car’s interior now matches its pedigree: functional, stylish, and ready for the next chapter.
