A custom-painted ’57 Chevy convertible that The Boss, Bruce Springsteen, once sold for $2,000, may bring in two hundred times that amount for the current owner. According to reports, the car served as inspiration for some of the Boss’ hits like “Born to Run,” “Racing in the Street,” “Jungleland” and other songs is currently listed in an online celebrity auction.

As Springsteen’s fame began to grow in New Jersey, the flame-painted droptop became a little too easy to spot, so it was sold in 1976 to a private buyer. That buyer is reported to have kept it for a number of years before selling to a collector for $10,000.
The convertible was also shown on Springsteen’s famous 1975 Time and Newsweek cover stories, leading some to speculate that a selling price for the car in the range of $400K is likely. Still, it’s a tidy profit for the third owner, whose instincts on this one can hardly be questioned.
A total of twenty Springsteen items are up for auction, including his platinum record award for Born in the USA, which currently has no bids and an asking price of $300.
