Some project cars get off to a slow start. You may have seen it or, God forbid, even done it yourself. The car arrives in the garage and work begins. Then life intervenes and priorities move on to somewhere else. So it was for this 1968 Camaro that sat in a household garage for 24 years. Now, it’s out and in the hands of the guys over at V8TV, it’s getting a full restoration.
Quite possibly, this car’s quarter century hibernation saved it from a fate some of us would shudder over, as explained in the project introduction video below. Ultimately, this car is to appear at this year’s SEMA Show, in the Classic Industies booth, so if you’re heading to Vegas in early November, you’ll be able to see the final result in person.
As this ’68 Camaro progresses, the group is documenting their work both in a forum thread and on video. For a California car that has been sitting on jack stands for so many years, we’re surprised at the amount of body and chassis rust repairs that need to be done.
Anyone contemplating the purchase of an unrestored ’68 Camaro would do well to familiarize themselves with this project. You’ll certainly come away knowing what to look for when checking out a potential buy.
Thankfully, it’s not all about the rust. The video collection is building and includes a front suspension install and window frame repairs, as well as quarter panel replacement and subframe repairs. The most current information and status is in the forum thread, as it does take some time to ram a video through post production.
This is real reality TV at its best. No BS, no false drama and no finishing up the project in 22.5 minutes. The folks at V8TV have done a bunch of other project cars as well, so even if a Camaro isn’t in your immediate future, they may have already covered what you’re looking for.
