Back in the day, many COPO Camaros came through the shop of the famed Donald Yenko. Few COPO Camaros, however, were sold by other performance shops including Berger Chevrolet. A fine, numbers-matching example of what Berger could do with the COPO Camaro was recently added to the line-up for the St. Charles Mecum Auction to be held mid-September. If you’re looking for a great piece of automotive history to add to your car collection, you’ll definitely want to check this gem out.
Recently we brought you news of a Double COPO Chevelle, modified by Donald Yenko, that was going to an upcoming Mecum Auction. Just like that car, the ‘69 Berger COPO Camaro is a Double COPO car. It was equipped with the #9561 COPO High-Performance package which included the 427cui big block. It also came with the #9737 COPO Sports Car Conversion package which equipped the car with a beefier suspension and handling components.
Without a doubt one of the best maintained COPOs out there, this Camaro maintains its original numbers-matching 427cui, 425hp L72 engine. It also comes with its Muncie four-speed manual transmission- only one of 12 put in a Berger COPO Camaro. Although it underwent a complete rotisserie restoration in ‘98, the car incorporates correct COPO components. In COPO performance style, the Camaro comes with a 12-bolt rear end with 4.10 gears, HD F62 front springs, HD G32 rear leaf springs, power disc brakes and a special curved-neck HD radiator. The Camaro also has Rally wheels, a 7,000rpm tachometer, 140mph speedometer, 1-inch front sway bar and an AM radio.
For appearance sake, the COPO has a D80 coded spoiler and an X11 coded ZL2 cowl induction hood. The car was finished in correct Garnet Red with matching Endura bumper, and a black vinyl top after its restoration. The interior was also redone in black.
To top it off, this Camaro comes with an owners manual with the original Berger Chevrolet envelope, photo documentation of the restoration and COPO Connection certification documents confirming the car to be a Double COPO and one of only 12 Beger COPO Camaros ordered with a four-speed. The upper radiator support on the Camaro is even signed by Dale Berger himself.
If you are interested in owning this extremely rare Berger Double COPO Camaro, it will cross the auction block on Saturday September 17th at 3:20p.m. Best of luck goes to all our COPO fans planning to fight it out for a chance to add the Berger COPO Camaro to their collections.
