With as much time as we all spend worrying about making sure the valves are unshrouded during the milling process, have you ever considered what effect the metal on the block where it meets the cylinder head has on air flow?

We found a video on YouTube where one engine builder has been dealing with that issue for years. He has been using a clever technique where he shaves a couple of notches in the bores of each cylinder at the the very top to help with the airflow.

The video clearly shows the purpose and how this builder goes about improving the flow.

A word of caution; this engine builder is from Canada and you will hear the stereotypical words like “aboot.” We refrained from using any South Park references because this tech tip is a very interesting approach to improving the way a big block Chevy engine breathes, no matter what the dialect. This time however, for a truly complete tech tip, we can “Blame Canada.”
