eBay Find of the Day: Edelbrock-Powered ’59 Apache ‘burban Limo

It’s not every day that you see a suburban limousine, especially of the ‘59 Apache variety. But as we found out from Jalopnik, someone was recently selling one on eBay anyway.

No it’s not quite like the stealthy black Hummer or Escalade limos that people take to weddings or high school proms now a day, but the classic Apache Suburban would certainly have you arriving in style, and an odd one at that. Back before large vans and mini-busses existed, a few coachbuilders took ordinary cars and trucks and extended them into large-capacity vehicles.

Just like their modern counterparts, these large vehicles were used to transport groups of people around to see the sights, to and from the airport, and at luxury resorts. Because of the time-consuming and costly process of creating a limousine back in the day, few were ever built and even fewer survived life after their working years were over. That’s why it’s extremely rare to ever see one up for sale.

The Apache Suburban listed on eBay has stood the test of time, however. Powering the odd vehicle is an Edelbrock-equipped 283ci small-block complete with performance headers and a Magnaflow exhaust. The engine is backed by an automatic transmission to put the minimal power of the engine to the wheels. The front of the limo has disc brakes while the entire truck rides on new Crager wheels.

The interior of the Apache has also been upgraded. It now features custom leather seats, bright orange details to match the exterior paint scheme, an AM/FM stereo system, digital dash, custom window cranks and custom door handles. Of course a limo wouldn’t be a limo without darkened windows, so the rear sliding windows have been tinted a few shades darker.

This Apache Suburban limo is definitely one unique vehicle. Unfortunately, the 14 bids on the vehicle didn’t meet the reserve price and the auction ended on February 12^th with a high bid of $21,100. Although it didn’t sell this time, we hope to see the limo listed on eBay again soon.
