A family member’s passing is always a tragic thing and while some families are able to come together over the loss of a loved one, others are torn apart as material goods are divided among the survivors. Usually, it’s siblings who are battling over the leftovers of a life lost but during a strange occurrence in Connecticut, a man has been charged with stealing and selling his niece’s ’73 Camaro, a car left to her by her father.
The Register-Citizen reports that Michael Bell, 36, of Winstead, CT, is charged with allegedly stealing his niece’s Camaro, and then selling it to somebody else in order to fund a business he was starting.
The car at the center of this case is a ‘73 Camaro, which was willed to Bell’s niece, along with all of her father’s other possessions. The niece loaned the car to Bell, who was supposed to repair it for her. The niece allegedly put $5,000 of work into the car, but Bell refused to return it, eventually changing his phone number to stop her calls.
The niece went to the police back in 2009. She returned to police in November of 2011 to reopen the case, by which time Bell allegedly sold the Camaro to a Bristol man. The car was reported stolen, and Bell was arrested and arranged to appear in court.
Just kind of leaves a sour taste in your mouth, doesn’t it?
