As usual, we were cruising our favorite pro-touring website, pro-touring.com and couldn’t help but showcase this wildly fabricated ’72 Nova, complete with an SCCA theme. When one thinks of a Nova what comes to mind? Stock car muscle, right? Is it the car you sat in with your father or perhaps the first car owned as a teenager?
It was designed by Chris Grey of Marquez Designs and will be an ongoing project featuring lots of SCCA themed parts and components. The look and feel of this car gives the impression that it burns rubber and eats asphalt.
This began with the addition of custom fender flares, which were welded to onto the factory sheet metal to cover the large, Hoosier tires like a glove. The flares were then painted a gloss black while the body took on a Satin Black finish. Catching the eye next were unique front grill and splitter that looks straight out of NASCAR, illustrating that this car means business even before it’s started.
The splitter’s inspiration came from the old cow catchers found on trains. We have to say, it’s quite the sight and has spawned lots of conversation in the office about whether it’s actually a functional piece of body work or merely for show. We’re leaning towards the latter…
The use of aluminum to accent the cars grill, headlights, and trim gives a great contrast to the finish blending old and new perfectly. So what’s next for this vehicle? Future plans call for a complete racing suspension including a 4-link rear setup to compliment its current looks with cutting edge performance.
What’s more, though currently the Nova is powered by an underwhelming small-block, plans are in order for a complete LS conversion with overdrive transmission and a quick ration steering box. With the progress the Nova has made so far, we can’t wait to see how the car turns out!
