The Donk sub-culture of car enthusiasts tends to emphasize looks over horsepower, and there isn’t anything wrong with that. Donk’s typically have big wheels, loud sound systems, and more televisions than a sports bar, often at the expense of what is under the hood. Whatever makes you happy is fine by us.
Even so, we absolutely love it when cars defy expectations and go above and beyond to deliver a unique look and ride, with the power to back it up. So, the 1972 Chevy Impala in this video with 26-inch wheels, a monster sound system, AND a turbocharged LSx engine really puts a smile on our face.
First off, the ‘72 Impala doesn’t have the same shine or appeal as the classic 6-4 and Bubbletop cars, but it certainly has a devoted following among the Donk crowd. It certainly epitomizes excess luxury both in size and quality, and the subtle green paint job would fit right in with the 1970’s. And yes, the 26-inch Fogiato wheels share the same color scheme.
As far as Donks go though, the turbocharged LSx engine under the hood is what sets this car apart. Most times, the engine is only given a passing though, with a carbureted crate engine dropped just for the V8 rumble sound effects. But instead this Donk gives us a turbocharged LSx motor that has to be good for at least 550 horsepower, and can likely smoke those big 26-inch tires with no problem.
