For a while there it seemed like GM, and indeed all the American automakers, were obsessed with body-on-frame SUV’s. Besides being easy to build and raking in a tremendous profit-per-vehicle, Americans seemed to have an insatiable appetite for bigger and bigger “family” vehicles. It wasn’t long until the aftermarket followed the trend and started making performance parts for these behemoths. That is why we have vehicles like this supercharged Chevy Tahoe SS, which in this next video we found on Chevy Performance’s Facebook page can be seen running 12-second quarter-mile times. Ya, it’s faster than your Camaro.
From what we understand, there never was a Chevy Tahoe SS, though that didn’t stop the aftermarket from offering various looks and performance packages to turn a family hauling into a race truck. The 6.2 liter V8 is well supported already, so strapping a supercharger to the big-displacement V8 is sure to crank up the volume in terms of power.
But that’s only the start. Other modifications include alcohol injection, a Comp Cams camshaft, LT headers, and 4:10 gears out the rear. Hence why this almost three-ton beast of an automobile is able to spring down the ¼ mile in less time than most muscle cars. Gas mileage? Who cares…you’ll never be late for soccer practice again.
