We recently received an email from Mike Lliteras who lives in South Florida, and, even though he’s a Blue Oval kinda guy, he surmised that there was something special about this bevy of Corvettes that he keeps seeing as he drives the many miles between Naples and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Known as Alligator Alley, this stretch of Interstate 75 is laden with miles and miles of arrow-straight roadway. Perfect landscape if you’re looking at tuning in drivability or suspension tweaks.
Mike travels this stretch of I-75 quite often and has reported that he has seen a fleet of what appears to be ZR1 Corvettes heading to and fro between Naples and Ft. Lauderdale. He has seen them “for months” and it appears that they are still doing testing as he recently just sent us a couple of photos of two convertibles doing the same thing. The blue one apparently has the ZTK Track Performance Package, as noted by the huge rear wing, which didn’t exactly tickle Mike’s fancy.
The fact that they were spotted some time ago, and apparently that testing is ongoing, tells us that there are some tweaks still to come in the cars. What exactly is Chevy testing on these long, straight stretches of Florida highway? We may never know. The muggy, oppressive heat of Florida’s summer hasn’t settled heavily on the Sunshine State, so we doubt that there’s heat issue testing going on. Besides, Mike reports that he never sees these cars doing any more than highway driving. He reports, “They all look like boy racers but these guys haven’t even revved the engines.”
Here’s Mike’s email, in its entirety:
I sent these to one of the other writers. In case he didn’t share or you haven’t seen these. I bleed Ford Blue so I don’t even know if these are out yet, but they’ve been testing two yellow hard tops for a couple months and this is the first time I’ve seen these out.
They run back and forth across Alligator Alley between Naples and Ft Lauderdale. I drive it a couple times a week and have seen the hard tops almost every time. They all have computers and other crap wired up inside. Some days there’s more camo on the alley than at the air force base. The blue one has a monstrously looking spoiler on it. They all look like boy racers but these guys haven’t even revved the engines.
