Video: Tri Star Engine’s 383 Stroker Pulls Hard On The Dyno

Since it was founded in 1988, Tri Star Engines and Transmissions of Baldwin, Wisconsin has been one of the region’s top builders of Chevy mills for street, strip and other performance setups. One of their more well-rounded applications is their 425-horse, 383 stroker HP crate motor using Tri Star’s signature “HP” aluminum heads, big valves and 64cc chambers to also create 460 feet-pounds of unadulterated torque.

Tri Star’s torque-laden stroker motor is built with the street car or truck in mind that also likes to make the occasional drag strip run, built to run on premium pump gas while also being able to hook up to nearly any manual or automatic transmission.

The standard flat tappet hydraulic cam that is featured in the HP383 has an aggressive profile (0.470/0.470″ lift; 0.285/0.295 degree duration) when combined with the recommended 2,500rpm stall converter promises stump-pulling power.

Tri Star’s “HP” performance heads also follow the standard for small-block construction, as the aluminum pieces hold at each cylinder a set of 2.02/1.6 stainless steel valves that are pushed open via a set of hardened pushrods and Tri Star’s own in-house long slot rockers and springs.

The 383 also features Edelbrock’s RPM Performer series intake while a Quick Fuel carburetor monitors the engine’s air-to-fuel mix.

MSD’s HEI “Street Fire” distributor with HP wires and ACDelco’s spark plugs fires at all 8 circles, and in terms of overall engine block quality, Tri Star’s HP stroker is CNC-machined and stress-relieved with 4-bolt mains at the shop’s cutting-edge, CNC machining center.

Getting to the bottom line; Tri Star’s 383 mill is as durable as it is powerful, and it’s an engine platform that performs no matter how or where it’s used.
