ScottieD has yet another jaw dropping, adrenaline inducing gem to show us, this time in the form of a 1966 Chevy II. This Viper blue street machine was built as a cool street machine by Joe Brown of Hot Rod Joe’s Rod & Customs from Louisiana. It’s an excellent combination of paint, bodywork, stance, handling and performance.
The owner, Steve, didn’t want his car to be either a minimalist performer or a flashy show car, he wanted the best of both style and speed. He had less than a week to finish the car before the Goodguys PPG Nationals, so he called up Joe who worked his magic.
Instead of simply giving the ’66 Chevy II a flashy paint job and some chrome accents, Joe went all out on the body. He hand fabricated a custom front bumper from the stock bumper. He extended it, slightly reshaped it and installed a handmade grill offering both better styling and increased airflow to the mighty mill.
Fab work was also performed on the front and rear fenders, where functional air vents to let heat escape front the engine were added up front, and rear vents let cool air feed the rear brakes. A ram air hood flows in more air to the high tech supercharged LS2 that powers this beast, which is mated to a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission. A Concept One pulley system adds a little extra beauty to the blown mill.
On the outside the wild exterior is covered Viper blue paint with Viper charcoal stripes. The car sits on a set of custom Billet Specialties wheels wrapped in low profile tires. Joe guarantees it will be a serious autocross contender, and says he has already slid it around some.
