Kyle and Stacy Tucker are the husband and wife team behind Detroit Speed and Engineering, the the hugely successful company that produces OEM caliber high performance suspension and chassis parts for GM F-Bodies, A-Bodies, X-Bodies, and even G-Bodies. They met at General Motors while working as engineers on Corvette suspension design and later married.
Together they used their skills to build their first ’69 Camaro that could handle, and it wasn’t long before others wanted help doing the same. Detroit Speed and Engineering was born and while their initial product lineup was mainly for Camaro’s, they can cover almost any GM fan’s needs today. They now operate DSE out of an old Nationwide race shop in Mooresville, NC, right in the heart of NASCAR Country. They’ve built a couple of Camaro’s for Dale Earnhardt Jr. already!
This video is a lap around the road course during the 2010 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. The event was help the day after SEMA ended just outside Las Vegas. In the video Kyle runs his Camaro hard, and watch closely to pick up a few tricks. His ’70 Camaro has the latest and greatest stuff on it from Detroit Speed as it’s one of several “test cars” in the DSE fleet.
He finished 3rd overall in the road course segment and 2nd overall in the Invitational, losing only to GM legend Mark Stielow in his LS9 powered ’69 Camaro. Just in case you’re curios, the suspension under Stielow’s Camaro was from (you guessed it) Detroit Speed.
